Homeowners spend lots of money employing tradespeople to fix botched DIY jobs. 

A survey found 47 per cent of people say their project failed due to their lack of skills.

The research by Direct Line Business Insurance is putting the increase in botch jobs is due to the rising popularity of DIY videos on social media.

The most popular home improvement task people take on painting, followed by putting up fittings for curtains or TV brackets, and landscaping or fencing their garden.
