Arthur R. Pomerleau, 88, of Portsmouth, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2022. He was born in Pittsfield, MA on August 21, 1934 son of the late Joseph and Elsie (Trembley) Pomerleau.

Art graduated from Spaulding High School with the Class of 1955 and attended the University of New Hampshire. He owned and operated A.R. Pomerleau Company a home improvement construction business for nearly 50 years.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton and an avid golfer and former member of Abenaqui Country Club and Rockingham Country Club. His disability gave inspiration to disabled veterans and blind golfers. He was a member of the US Golf Association with whom he spent over 40 years helping veterans.

He was active with the Jimmy Fund, Hope for the Blind, Wounded War Veterans and Friends of Blind Golfers. He played in annual tournaments with Bob Hope, President Gerald Ford, Chi Chi Rodriguez and many more prominent people to help support veterans and the blind. He was an inspiration with his capabilities on the golf course to many disabled people as his handicap was never a handicap to him as a scratch golfer.

He shared 44 years with his late wife Phyllis (Saluto) Pomerleau who predeceased him in 2021.

Surviving family members include his two daughters, Diane Pineo of North Hampton, Lois Carroll of Hampton and their mother, Joan Gerrish; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Annette Cook of Rochester, Theresa Tolman of Ogdensburg, NY, Betty Tufts of Bow Lake and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his two daughters, Cheryl Pomerleau and Suzanne Christenbury; brothers, Joseph, Daniel and Gene Pomerleau and sister, Florence Worcester.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 – 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842. A prayer service will immediately follow at 11 AM in the funeral home. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of traditional remembrances, donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226 or the US Blind Golf Association, c/o Denise Forsyth, Treasurer, 6881 Custer Road, New Plymouth, ID 83655.
